Malcolm Maloney Jagamarra: Bio
Malcolm Jagamarra Maloney was born in January 1955 to Minnie Napanangka, a Walpiri woman, at Aningie, which is about 100kms east of the Lander River. Malcolm’s father was an Irish Bushman Gerry Maloney.
Jagamarra lived with his Warlpiri family until the age of 6 years when he was removed due to his white background. He was taken to Adelaide and lived with several foster families. Jagamarra attended Adelaide Boys’ High School and excelled in Arts, History and on the Sporting Field. Jagamarra played Professional Football for 10 years for North Adelaide

In 1978 Jagamarra returned to Alice Springs where he was reunited with his family and he lived amongst them for a number of years. Jagamarra went through his ‘Manhood’ ceremonies in 1983 at 27 years of age and continued to absorb the songs and ceremonial facets of being a Lander River Warlpiri. Jagamarra is now considered an Elder of the Warlpiri and can and does start ceremonies.
Malcolm Jagamarra Maloney is considered to be one of the most talented and dynamic Aboriginal Artists and has been instrumental in forging new directions for Traditional Art.
